LEGO® Bricks in Urban Art

The CONSTRUCTED STYLES book covers 25 international artists and their stunning urban art sculptures, 3D-graffitis and room installations made from LEGO® Bricks. It features over 220 full-color photographs of cutting edge urban art pieces. The German street art crews Sketched and Buntlack, internationally renowned artists like Jan Vormann and graffiti artists of two generations have created this unique collection of artwork. Compiled by designer Henk Holsheimer on over 100 pages the book includes interviews with Sat One, Acid79 plus a multiple page documentation of the process of creation. This book inspires to express creativity in a new exciting way, accessible to everybody, colorful, fascinating and immensely diverse.

CONSTRUCTED STYLES at Stroke02, Munich 2010

The LEGO Group sponsored an XXL stand at Europe‘s most important urban art fair, Stroke02, held in Munich, April 2010. The artists on display were Jan Vormann, Z-Rok, Orion Pax, Diese Mädchen, Sketched, and especially flown in from Spain: the Arvo Brothers with their incredible Iron Man and many other great sculptures.
This special art fair was visited by around 10,000 people. Curated by Henk Holsheimer, the LEGO stand offered large tables full of bricks for visitors to build their own creations. Orion Pax and The Arvo Brothers created several sculptures live at the fair which were auctioned for charity, amongst others the incredible „Ice Style“ by Orion Pax.

CONSTRUCTED STYLES at Nürnberg Toy Fair 2010

A special exhibition, commissioned by The LEGO Group, was held at Nürnberg Toyfair, worlds largest toy fair.

It was a surprise exhibition for LEGO employees and selected customers, showing new artwork from Cole Blaq - amongst others ‚The Burn‘, subways from Buntlack and two specially commisioned sculptures by Orion Pax as present for the owner of The LEGO Group, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and CEO Jørn Vig Knudstorp.

The birth moment:

LEGO Graffiti Styles Convention 2009

Initiated and organized by Henk Holsheimer, the LEGO Graffiti Styles Convention‘ was the birth moment of LEGO Urban Art. For the first time ever street artists from different backgrounds showed their LEGO urban art creations to the public.

Henk Holsheimer invited 25 artists with a background in Street Art to let them go wild for a month in an abandoned building in the centre of Munich. The artists had their own rooms and about 200.000 LEGO bricks to play with. The outcome was mind-blowing with around 100 different art pieces on show at the opening day of the exhibition.

Participating artists were Jan Vormann, Sat One, Z-Rok, Sketched Crew, Buntlack Crew, Orion Pax, Shannon Ocean, Diese Mädchen, Cole Blaq, Flxn, Thesigner, Alexandra Gomoletz, Dennis Korbes and Christoph Kölle.

CONSTRUCTED STYLES at systM gallery bar Berlin

For the first time, a selection of urban LEGO creations was shown in an art gallery, systM gallery in Berlin Mitte. The exhibition took place from 30.04.2010 to 22.05.2010 with opening event and book pre-release party.

Jan Vormann created several Dispatchwork LEGO Brick installations around the gallery area in Berlin Mitte, The Buntlack Crew showed their LEGO subways created at the LEGO Graffiti Style Convention in Munich, Orion Pax and Cole Blaq presented new creations and Shannon Ocean and Jan Vormann were featured on large prints.
